Repotting

When bringing a plant home, always repot it. You never know what you might find inside, from trash to pests, mold, or lack of nutrients.
By repotting your Swiss Cheese Plant right away, you’re taking precautions and stimulating the plant’s growth. After all, it’s not fertilizer that makes plants develop, but good substrate.
When repotting, do it carefully. Don’t disturb the plant’s roots too much; just remove a bit of excess soil. The time of year doesn’t matter; repot it soon, don’t leave it for later, as it might be too late.
Substrate
Swiss Cheese Plants generally like a well-draining, airy substrate that doesn’t retain too much water. They don’t like their roots to be wet for long periods.
With practice and daily care, you’ll understand what it likes and doesn’t like over time. Buy the substrate for your Swiss Cheese Plant here.

Watering
To water your Swiss Cheese Plant, always use the “finger test” technique to feel if the plant needs water or not.
To check, put your finger in the substrate. If your finger comes out dirty, it doesn’t need watering. If your finger comes out clean, it’s time to water. Remember, when it comes to Swiss Cheese Plants, less is more; don’t overwater.
The Swiss Cheese Plant loves a light rain or having its leaves misted. This helps with its development. In fact, I’d say it’s essential that the Swiss Cheese Plant receives a light misting on its leaves once a week, whether from rain, tap, or shower water.
Lighting
The Swiss Cheese Plant needs an environment with good light to grow optimally.
It’s recommended that this plant be placed in an environment with sun in the early morning hours or late afternoon. When it doesn’t receive adequate light, it starts to look wilted, thin, and colorless.

How to Propagate Swiss Cheese Plant
Swiss Cheese Plant cuttings are made from stems. For the cutting to develop, you first need to choose older stems. The cut needs to be clean and made between one leaf and another.
After cutting the stems, apply a natural rooting hormone, wait a few minutes for the rooting hormone to dry, and then plant it in the specific substrate for Monsteras, which you can find here. The stem can be planted either horizontally or vertically.
After planting, water the cuttings well until water comes out from the bottom. Then, just keep it in partial shade until it roots, remembering not to oversaturate the substrate, or the cuttings will rot. Remember, the Swiss Cheese Plant doesn’t like standing water on its roots.
Not all cuttings will always sprout, but don’t get discouraged; that’s normal.
See below the cuttings I made at home:

Is the Swiss Cheese Plant Toxic to Animals?
Unfortunately, the answer is yes. In fact, all parts of this plant are toxic, but this doesn’t prevent you from having this plant in your home. Just be more attentive with your pets, even though they often have the instinct not to come into contact with the plant.
At my home, for example, we have 8 cats, and they’ve never messed with or eaten poisonous plants. Cats only mess with plants when they don’t have grass to eat. Grass acts like a tea for cats; it aids in their digestive process.

Decoration Ideas
For those who want to use the Swiss Cheese Plant as part of their decor, there are many ideas that can help. First of all, the plant is great for decorating balconies and terraces, which are environments with more light, but be careful not to leave it in a place that gets too much direct sunlight.
You can use it to decorate inside your home next to a window or near a window.
Now, in the garden, the story changes. It develops more naturally and quickly, and if you don’t want it to grow too fast, pruning and creating new cuttings is essential. You can cut the stems and plant them in the ground to make the environment fuller.
